Boston Unfurled Flags Exhibition
Boston Unfurled is a vibrant family friendly exhibition celebrating creativity, craftsmanship and local heritage at Fydell House.
Community-Created Hanseatic Banners
This striking collection of banners was created in collaboration with members of the Boston Hanse Group and local residents, working alongside artists Ruth Pigott and Kathleen Smith. Over several weeks, participants learned traditional sewing techniques to bring these bold textile artworks to life.
Creative Craft Meets Contemporary Design
In addition to the banners, artist Kathleen Smith worked with participants to design intricate finials, which were then 3D printed. These unique elements add a contemporary twist to the historic Hanseatic theme, creating a truly bespoke and visually engaging exhibition.
A Touring Collection with International Connections
These beautiful banners have travelled to Hanseatic cities across Europe with the Boston Hanse Group, celebrating Boston’s rich trading history and cultural links. Now on display locally, this exhibition offers a rare chance to experience them up close.
This event is part of our We Are Boston programme of immersive arts experiences across the town marking Boston’s historic connections to the USA on the 250th anniversary weekend of American Independence and launching community consultations on cultural plans for 2030 – the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Boston in America by people from Boston, Lincolnshire.
