Be involved in Illuminate 2026: Looking Up & create the spectacular lanterns that will light up Boston's heritage-inspired winter parade!

Get involved in Illuminate 2026: Looking Up and help create the spectacular lanterns that will light up Boston's heritage-inspired winter parade.

In collaboration with Story Tellers, these free community lantern-making workshops invite people of all ages and abilities to work alongside Ruth Pigott of Curiosity Creators's Illuminate artistic team to create beautiful illuminated artworks inspired by this year's theme, Looking Up and to walk in the parade itself.

Taking inspiration from the remarkable sculptures, carvings, weather vanes and architectural details that decorate Boston's buildings and skyline, participants will help bring some of the town's hidden treasures to life through light, colour and creativity.

Whether you're a returning Illuminate maker or joining us for the first time, these relaxed and welcoming sessions offer the chance to learn new skills, get creative, and become part of one of Boston's most-loved community events.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at the start of their chosen session, but you're welcome to stay for as much or as little of the workshop as you'd like. Many people enjoy spending the full session developing their lantern-making skills and helping to create the beautiful collection of lanterns that make the parade shine.

All materials are provided, and the lanterns created during the workshops will form part of the Illuminate 2026 procession through Boston town centre on Friday 27 November 2026.

Places are free but limited, so advance booking via Eventbrite is essential.

Participants under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian during the workshops and at the parade.

Accessibility
Our accessible workshop session takes place at Fydell House on Saturday 14 November, which offers step-free access. Please contact us if you have any additional access requirements and we'll do our best to support you.
The parade last for approximately 45 minutes, and is outdoors so there may be uneven terrain. The route begins at Central Park, goes down Wide Bargate and finishes in Boston Market Place.

Supported By
These workshops are delivered by Transported, in collaboration with Story Tellers, and supported through Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grants funding, alongside support from Boston Borough Council and the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership Story Tellers NPO programme.
