The Info

Explore traditional flower symbolism through hands-on embroidery while creating your own embroidered piece inspired by Central and Eastern European folk traditions.

May 16th & May 23rd
1-3pm, booking required

Textiles artist Madara Vimba will lead embroidery workshops inspired by traditional flower motifs and ethnographic symbols from Latvia and across Central and Eastern Europe.

The sessions begin with an introduction to Latvian ethnographic signs, focusing on floral motifs and their meanings within folk culture. Participants will then have a chance to explore these ideas through hands-on embroidery, while engaging with wider transnational traditions and contributing their own interpretations.

All materials will be provided. Participants are also welcome to bring their own embroidery materials or works-in-progress if they already have an embroidery practice, as well as any books, references, or sources of inspiration they would like to share with the group. The session is intended as an informal space for exchange, conversation, and learning from one another.

Exhibition

The programme will culminate in a public exhibition on 3rd and 4th July in Boston, bringing together the works created throughout the workshop series. The exhibition will showcase a range of participant-led creations, highlighting the diversity of materials, techniques, and cultural traditions explored.
