Join us at the start of Boston’s Mayflower 400 journey for Illuminate, the first of a series of events leading up to the international celebration of the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower in 2020. It’s going to be a dazzling evening!
Community groups and schools are working throughout November with artists Julie Willoughby and Ruth Pigott to make a spectacular lit lantern parade which will include stars, fish, pilgrim puppets and the Mayflower ship. The groups will parade the lanterns in two spectacular processions, with everyone meeting in Market Square, accompanied by special music composed by and performed by Jo Freya on the theme of ‘Leaving’. Once the processions have arrived, Boston Choral Society and Giles Academy choir group will sing ‘Beyond the Horizon’ live, a new song which has been written by Jo Freya in collaboration with local schools. Rhubarb Theatre will also be performing Mayflower, a modern telling of the epic journey of the Mayflower Pilgrims.
Illuminate is part of the events taking place for the Christmas Lights Switch On in Boston, and is in partnership with Boston Borough Council.
